DCM in SDCC County Hall on 25th May 2024

Breege Kennedy, Brian Sheridan, Siobhain Bunni and Mary O Flaherty all represented DCM at the Seniors Expo in County Hall. The Seniors Expo is aimed at people over the age of 55 years. The Expo was opened by Mayor Alan Edge. Chair of the local Older People's Council, Mary Lyons, spoke about the Expo and encouraged everyone to visit all the tables including upstairs, and use the stairs instead of the lift! She reminded everyone that there were goodie bags for all. She encouraged everyone to take a copy of the new Directory of Activities and Services for older people in SDCC. There were speakers, activities and representatives from local groups and businesses exhibiting, displaying the support available for older people and this included DCM.

Breege did great networking by going around to all the exhibitors and giving them DCM flyers and business cards! Brian, Siobhain and Mary engaged and chatted with people who came to the DCM table, outlining what mediation is, and the services DCM provides in the community. We had sweets for the visitors too!!

We were delighted to make connections with Mayor Alan Edge, Cllr Francis Timmons, Citizens Information, Senior Line, Kilnamanagh ICA, a representative from a Primary Care Health Centre, South Dublin Partnership, Gerontology Unit in Tallaght Hospital, HSE Health Promotion Unit, Adult Education Service, Adult Guidance Service, as well as many members of the public. We will follow up with these people and organisations very soon.

Sincere thanks to Breege, Brian, Siobhain and Mary who were fantastic ambassadors for DCM and gave their time and energy to highlight the support available for people in conflict in the community.

The day was part of Age Friendly Ireland South Dublin's work to improve the environmental, economic and social factors to create an age friendly society.
